A Change of Scenery: Top Three Beaches to Visit Near Baker Block

One of the best parts of living in the state of California is the weather. Even in the month of February, you still get tons of sunshine. When it comes to the city of Costa Mesa, the opportunities of enjoying beautiful weather are endless, especially with how many beaches there are. Even though it does not get much better than the view from our sky lounge, here are our top three beaches to visit near Baker Block when you are in need of a change of scenery.

Beach #1: Corona Del Mar State Beach

First up is Corona Del Mar State Beach. Located on 3001 Ocean Blvd., this beach is only 16 minutes away from Baker Block. You can reach Corona Del Mar via an access road near the intersection of Iris Street and Ocean Boulevard. When it comes to parking, it could not be better. The lot is only $4 and free street parking is easy to find. This half-mile long sandy beach is bordered by gorgeous cliffs and a rock jetty that forms an entrance to Newport Harbor. Since this beach is never crowded, it is a great spot to clear your mind and watch the sunset.

If you do come with company there are plenty of activities at your disposal. From volleyball, hiking trails, scuba diving, and plenty of food services, Corona Del Mar is never a bore. For those of you with kids, make sure you take them to the tide pools. Also, you can never go wrong with a walk along the jetty to watch the boats go in and out of the bay.

Beach #2: Sunset Beach

About 13 miles from Baker Block is our next beach, Sunset Beach in Huntington. Stretching over 1.5 miles, Sunset Beach features one of the widest beaches in Southern California. Open from 5 AM to 10 PM, parking is very accessible along Pacific Avenue or Warner Avenue and PCH. While visiting, there are plenty of restaurants and local shops to indulge in. Parallel to Sunset beach is Green Belt, a beautiful 14-acre pastoral park. For those of you looking for a quiet seaside walk, Green Belt is the spot for you. Close by is a wonderful, clean playground to visit for those of you with kids. Although Sunset Beach has a bit of a touristy vibe, the view and local shops make for a great weekend outing with both friends and family.

Beach #3: Bolsa Chica State Beach

Of all the beaches featured in this post, Bolsa Chica State Beach is the farthest, but nonetheless worth it. Located South of Huntington Beach on 17859 Coast Highway, Bolsa Chica is the place for bonfires. Being the most popular attraction, we highly suggest arriving early if you want a fire pit for the day. On that note, this is one of the busiest beaches so parking, which is $15, may be difficult. Bolsa Chica also provides a great path for a nice walk or jog.

For all the surfers living at Baker Block, take note that Bolsa Chica has some of the best waves. Additional activities to enjoy are the bike trails, picnic areas, and geocaching. Along with the interpretive exhibits, our favorite amenity is the RV and family campsites. As mentioned before, Bolsa Chica is a bit of a drive but once you catch that sunset, you will be itching to go back.

 

No matter the day or month, living near Baker Block gives you the opportunity to experience some of the best beaches in all of California. So head on over to one of these beaches, soak in that Vitamin D, and relish in that OC scenery.
